Studying in Spain is one of the possibilities for residing legally in that country. For this you need to obtain a visa, whose basic requirements we explain below.<\/h2>\n

Study in Spain: admission and economic resources<\/h3>\n

In addition to complying with certain formalities, such as submitting an application in a pre-established form before the Spanish consulate of your country of residence and possessing a passport with minimum validity for the study period, to study in Spain it is necessary to meet two truly important background requirements :<\/p>\n

The first is to have been admitted to an educational institution authorized in Spain, to carry out a full-time program, leading to the obtaining of a degree or certificate of studies. We see that it is not necessarily university studies, because it could also be courses of what is known as vocational training, whether middle or higher degrees. But they cannot be part-time.<\/p>\n

The second is to have sufficient economic means to defray your expenses of stay and return to your country. In principle, for your support, monthly, you must justify resources equivalent to 100% of the IPREM, which amounts to 532.51 euros per month, unless it is duly accredited to have pre-paid the accommodation for as long as the stay lasts. In any case, the consulate will request bank statements from you or your parents and any other document that proves the economic solvency.<\/p>\n

Studying in Spain: other aspects to take into account<\/h3>\n

One fact that you have to take into account if you want to study in Spain is that if you meet the requirements you will get a study visa, which in turn is a stay visa. What implications does this have? That with a stay visa, even if you are legally in the country, that time is not counted as legal residence (for this you must have a residence permit, not a stay permit). This is important, since such time does not qualify to apply for nationality by residence, for example.<\/p>\n

Study in Spain: Can you work?<\/h3>\n

The answer is yes, but with conditions, two of which are fundamental, namely:<\/p>\n

The work activities must be compatible with the completion of the studies, so in principle they must be part time, and the income obtained should not have the character of resource necessary for your livelihood or stay.<\/p>\n

A special permit is required, which must be requested by the company that hires you, who in turn must be enrolled in the system of Social Security and be aware of the fulfillment of their tax obligations and Social Security and accredit economic means, sufficient materials or personnel to meet the obligations assumed in the contract.<\/p>\n

Studying in Spain: family<\/h3>\n

If you want to study in Spain, you can also get a stay visa for your family, as long as it is your spouse or partner, and your children under 18 years or older who have a disability that prevents them from providing their own needs.<\/p>\n

However, in order to obtain such visas you must justify that you have sufficient economic means. Thus, in addition to justifying that you have how to maintain yourself, you must prove that you can cover at least monthly expenses of 399.38 euros for the first relative, and 266.26 euros for each of the remaining family.<\/p>\n

Studying in Spain: Additional conditions<\/h3>\n

In addition to what is stated at the beginning of this article, in order to obtain a stay visa and to study in Spain, you must have public or private health insurance arranged with an insurer authorized to operate in Spain, and if the studies will last more than six months, a certificate of no criminal record and a certificate that you do not have any of the diseases that may have serious public health implications in accordance with the provisions of the 2005 International Health Regulations.<\/p>\n

Finally, it is important that you know that the process can take several months, so you must start it well in advance of the classes.<\/p>\n
