We clarify the doubts about what resources should be demonstrated to obtain the community family card in 2026<\/h2>\n

In accordance with Spanish and European regulations<\/a>, a community citizen (that is, a citizen of a country member of the European Union) who resides in Spain for more than 3 months is entitled to have their family members live with them, even if their nationality is not that of any of the countries of the European Union. This is what is known as the community family card.<\/p>\n

However, the community citizens must meet certain requirements. These are basically to have enough economic resources for themselves and their family members so they will not\u00a0 become a burden for the social assistance of Spain during their period of residence.<\/p>\n

How to meet the financial requirements to obtain the community family card<\/h3>\n

1- If the EU citizen has an employment contract in Spain<\/h3>\n

In this case, just submit the contract. This contract must include all the identifying data of the company or be registered in the Public Employment Service. Instead of the contract, you can present the registration document or situation assimilated to the registration in the corresponding Social Security system. Or give consent for the verification of data in the files of the General Treasury of the Social Security or the Tax Agency.<\/p>\n

2- If the community citizen is a self-employed worker (self-employed or self-employed)<\/h3>\n

Registration in the Economic Activities Census or justification of the creation of a company through Registration in the Commercial Registry.
\nInstead of this it can also be presented, as in the case of the employee for an employee, the registration document or situation assimilated to the registration in the corresponding Social Security scheme. Or give consent for the verification of data in the files of the General Treasury of the Social Security or the Tax Agency.<\/p>\n

3- If the community citizen does not work in Spain<\/h3>\n

It is only in this case that the matter gets complicated. In effect, in this case, you must present,<\/p>\n

a- a public or private health insurance<\/strong> contracted in Spain or in another country, provided that it provides coverage in Spain to him and his family during his period of residence, which is equivalent to that provided by the National Health System.<\/p>\n

b- Sufficient annual income<\/strong> derived from rents, payments, etc., or equity in sufficient cash during the time of residence (bank deposits, for example). The reference amount is set to receive a non-contributory pension, which in 2026 is 8,803.20 euros per year.<\/p>\n

If the community resides alone, you have to justify this amount. For each additional member of the family, 70% of it.<\/p>\n

Thus, if you live only with your spouse or domestic partner, the amount is \u20ac 14,965.14. If you live with the couple and one child, 21,127.88 euros per year, with a partner and two children, 27,289,92 euros, and so on.<\/p>\n

Case of the “extended” family<\/h3>\n

The above criteria apply to obtain the community family card, when it comes to:<\/p>\n

Spouse or domestic partner (registered or not).
\nChildren of the community or their partner under 21 years of age or older who have some disability.
\nDirect descendants (parents, grandparents) of the community or their partner.
\nAdditionally, for other relatives we must distinguish:<\/p>\n

-The other family members who are in their country of origin or live with them.<\/p>\n

This dependence or coexistence must have been at least 24 months. That is to say, it is necessary to prove that they lived with him 2 years before coming to reside in Spain, or that he depended economically on him during that period. For example, of a child of, let’s say 23 years, without a disability, but who has been studying at the University, and the community citizen has defrayed his expenses. It is insisted, this circumstance must be demonstrated.<\/p>\n

– Other family members who, due to serious health or disability reasons, it is strictly necessary for the citizen of the Union to take charge of the personal care of said member of the family. This also has to be proved, with the respective medical reports.<\/p>\n
